I have a New TFX block. I run this in a dragboat. I've been using an aircraft starter turning the snout end of the crank. I just bought a new bryant splined crank. It caused issues with the starter mounting. RCD wants me to stack up a bunch of pulley spacers like a hillbilly. Was thinking about going to a 24volt flywheel starter like I ran on my AJ/OLDs, to get rid of the expensive and room consuming aircraft starter. Been told I could mount the starter to the engine plate. Anybody have any ideas or experience with this application. I have an Owens clutch and 2 speed on a Lenco Bellhousing. Thanks.

we did that about 10-12 years ago........it's the only way to go if you ask me. i can tell you everything you need to know about doing that. i even have a template to make a hole in the motorplate if you need that. we run a small GPE chevy style starter, 168 tooth ring gear on the clutch, trick titanium can, and a tfx92 block. send me an e-mail, i'll tell you how to do everything.

I have the same problem (opportunity?) but I am hooking up my forged TFX to a Bruno. I have the chevy flex plate with ring gear and a Tilton starter but there isn't much room to mount it.

The Only Problem We Had With The Tfx Is The Space Between Our Frame Rails ! If You Have Less Then 18 1/2" Or Less, I Don't Think It Will Work

    Starter

Look at Troy Ferry's boat (#247 your next TAH), he uses a starter on the motor plate. Seems to work well. I do not know what the part number is for a flat surface monted starter. You'll have to spend most of your time making sure your machining/alignment is good.

    starter

We run a TFX, Lencodrive. The Tim McAmis starter/or flat mounting bracket works great. We have it mounted on pass side right below pan rail.
