I am getting ready to buy a new suit and helmet. I have never tried on a one piece suit, only a 2 piece. I see a lot of the drivers using 1 pieces. What are the pros and cons to them both? Who would you buy a new suit from with all the issues floating around with certain manufactures? Who's helmet would you buy? I have to have fresh air for the funny car. Thanks, Todd

    My 2 cents...
I prefer the 1 piece cause there are no gaps for anything, like flames to get closer to the skin. I have worn Simpson for quite some time and like it BUT I will say Design 500 makes a real nice suit and several friends have it and LOVE it... http://www.design500.com/

Helmets, Again I have a Simpson with fresh air and it works great, however I already know I am going to order the new Bell Fresh Air drag helmet. Sean Bellemeur, Denver Schutz and Troy Green all have it and like it alot they say it is the best fitting helmet they have had.
Contact Bell Helmets, 800-237-2700 Ext 6481 ask for Steve and tell him you spoke with Jerry Kumre and he will get you the racer price (its a great deal)

I know I sounded like an ad but you wanted info...

Thanks Jerry. That is the type of info. I need. I have a 2 piece now, but have fought with it when doing the belts, plus I have also worried about fires w/ a 2 piece. Are you selling your helmet?

Jerry, I talked to Steve at Bell helmets today. He said those helmets are not going to go to production. He said they are not carrying any SFI approved, fresh air, drag helmets right now.

What do you guys think of the Simpson vs Impact fresh air helmets?

    helmet

I have the impact nitro. the theory is great. it does keep the visor from fogging and you have filtered air w/o the fresh air on. but the steel fitting for the hose on the top is always getting crushed on the cage ,yes it is padded, maybe getting in and out...sometimes hard to get disconnected.. would prefer side attachment if available..may be easier to reach w./suit on

I have a Drag Champ from Impact. The fresh air is on the left side, not the top.

Simpson's don't fit my mellon. They always feel bad. Impacts are like a glove. I hope they are built by different people than who builds the firesuits...............

I've been using a Simpson Bandit funny car air helmet for 5 years now, I love it. Fits well, the teflon air tube on the side is replaceable, plugs into a 1/4" air line fitting.
