    did techline get sfi approval?

TPR2 is the only NHRA accepted paint as of 2009 unless something has changed.

To be honest i dont know if they got approved. I just got it off the post search as i forgot the number for tpr2. Sorry for the wrong number. Does tpr2 still offer the rebate if you put a sticker on the car?

Temprotex fire extinguishing SFI 54.1 approved coating clarifications

    Hi everyone,

I am the main contact for race technologies at TPR2, the makers of the Temprotex(R) fire proof, fire extinguishing coatings. I was asked by several alcohol teams to help clarify alot of questions going around.

Thanks for all the support and great feedback. I've joined this site so more racers can get the straight info when hunting for SFI 54.1 compliant coatings . Hopefully Will Hanna is ok with this reply being written to clarify some of the questions still floating around...

The product that has been approved is called Temprotex(R). You can find it at www.tpr2.com or calling us direct at our phone number 203-756-TPR2(8772).

We are working on distributors as well, Wizards Warehouse carries quarts of the product for touchups, repairs, etc. We are trying to get Summit and or Jeggs involved to make the touch up product more available, but haven't had much luck to date.

There is a section in our website just for our racing products. The big question is cost....The product is expensive, but, We ARE running a special 'A pillar' program right now where the coating is $160/gal (comes in a 2 gal pail) when a team sports Temprotex stickers on their A pillar. The 2 gallon minimum is because to meet the SFI spce, 2 coats must be applied. An alcohol car uses roughly 1.6-1.7gal. The product adds about 6 lbs/gallon to a car(or about 9 lbs to an alcohol car). The product is sprayable as well as rollable or brushable...spraying gives the best smoothness. The product is flat black when dry, which was requested because to greatly reduces glare.

Hopefully this helps..you can email me here on top alcohol if you have specific q's or need more help. We will work with this site to maybe do some type of technical info section if Will H is interested.

    Race fast, race safe...R

How is everyone prepping the body for this paint? are you trying to strip off the old stuff, and if so, how? I don't know if paint thinner will affect the carbon or not. I was planning on spraying it over the old, but want to make sure it would stick.

I used a pressure washer w/degreaser then hand wipe w/laq thinner. Seemed to work good. Take a long time to dry. I used a propane heater under the body and it dried rather quickly then.
