I know that the smart way to go is to put a screw blower on but what is the fastest times with a roots blower. Also what kind of a blower/engine combo was it on. Thanks.

    roots fast time

I be leave it was somewhere in th 5,70's with a DMPE M5. But i beleavr that unless you hit the lottery they are way out of reach. Car weight and a Hemi with all the right and newest stuff on it. Like I saied way out of reach unless you need to run one per class, Like Pro Mod. Dom

For funny car, the quickest is in the mid 5.60's. Atchison did that with a 481x Chevy style, and Brand and Thomas and went into the 60's with brad stuff in IHRA trim.
As for dragster, it has been so long since anyone tried, I would have to actually look for that info.
Are you speaking door car? Legal or not? Etc.

Don, an M5 is $13000, and a M4 is $8000. The M5 is very cheap compared to a Chuck Ford or a Troy Critchley blower. Depending on what options those blowers run between $17000 and $25000 range. There are some promod records out there with 18-71 custon blowers that a really fast.

Call up Bob Newberry!!! He ran 5.69 in 1994 with a KB block, Veney heads, and the skinny 4 butterfly injector. It was also in Houston where every track condition was perfect. Only reason I know that is because that car is sitting in my dads shop. That was the fastest pass by a roots blower for about 10-12 years until Atchison ran I think a 5.65 a few years back. And then yes Dale Drand blew them out of the water running consistent 5.60's. But correct me if I'm wrong, he designed his own heads. The only problem you run into in the late 90's and early 2000, racers were taking their littlefield cases and sending them to kobelco and having them fit their rotors into those cases and they made a lot of boost. You had the "superman" blowers and I heard those were a little inconsistent. Some made almost 50lbs of boost I heard! A friend of ours got a superman brand new, they put it on their car with a compter only 36lbs of boost. Next you have to take into account which racers moved their their blowers back. At one point, I think they made a special plate between the injector and the manifold which funneled the air into the blower a little differently. Also, the best blower is only the best the day it is bought brand new. If you are looking to buy a used blower then there is no use in asking that question.

Sheldon Bissesar (sp?) went 5.68 in T/D trim at PBIR a few weeks ago. I believe he has an M5/BAE combo, Aaron Sipple tunes the car. I know Marty Thacker ran very quick years ago with a Littlefield (Kobelco rotors I believe) in TAD trim.

    Jim,
I don't even want to argue about this, becuase I'm not happy about it either. In 1994 I was 9 years old and barely knew what a holeshot was. However I did remeber my father telling me that he owned the fastest roots blower car in the world and it ran a 5.65. However, when Atchison ran his 5.67 maybe 5.66 (I could be wrong) Les Mellow posted something in a forum. I chimed in with Newberry ran a hundreth better over 10 years ago, your a little late. Les chewed me out how it was a 5.69 and the only information to back it up is a little blurp on draglist.com. He went on and on how consitions were the best conditions drag racing ever saw. He called me out left and right. blah blah blah, either way, after that back and forth conversation I was not a fan of Les. I do like Rob though, great guy! We talked a little bit while in the staging lanes. I was making a licensing run up in Grand Bend, Ont. Talk about nervous.

    Fast roots

You guys are forgetting, Dale ran that 5.60? pass so fast that the earth rotated backwards and he beat superman to Louis Lane.......Clark Kent was so angry he made a movie where it went the other way.....Plus Dale's a great guy.

Rob Atchison went like a5.64 or 5.65 with the 481X and a PSI roots

Laurie Cannister went a 5.68 I think, it was with a Newberry hemi and a PSI

Sheldon Bissesser Has has just set a record and ran very fast with a Sipple tuned BAE fathead M5 deal..... With a torque convertor!!!!!! 3.69 at 200.47 mph in the eighth mile!!!!! and a 5.68 at 238 in the 1/4 mile, Congrads Sheldon the Escorial is on me next time I see you.

Eddie Carrecia has ran some good 1/8 mile times w/ a 481X and a Superman 3.79 in the eighth at Bradenton, haven't witnessed him in a 1/4 but I'm sure hes made some fast ones too.

And Chris Mendola with his auto promod car has the potential to run 3's in the eighth with a Newberry hemi and a PSI if he stops lighting cones on fire at the track......Love ya buddy...lol...oh yeah 10 days since last fire

    roots

I had to fire up the dragracecentral way-back machine to dig this one up.

T.J. Zizzo ran a 5.681 at 243.06 mph in Q1 at the 2001 Chicago national event with a roots.

I don't know if Marty ever ran faster than that before he bought the screw car from Bybee in 2002. I was thinking Marty ran a .69.

Not to take anything away from Sheldon and Sipple. Damn impressive run.
