I recently got a RCD degree wheel and hub assembly that had three of the degree wheel slots or holes filled in solid. The material used to fill them in is aluminum.I'm really perplexed as to why this might be done.Does not have a crank trigger,or any type of pick-up mounted around or near the crank so I don't think it would be done for shielding. Any of you guys ever seen or heard of an external balanced hemi? thanks overthehill.

From a crank balancing stand point that would have been a desperation move.
Aluminum would have a real small effect that close to center. If I had some dimensions I could figure out the effect.
However, take a close look and see if the empty hole might have had something in there at one time and it fell out. If so knock the others out.

Knock the others out if you already have an internal balanced engine and you likely do.... and the end result leaves you with a symmetrical piece.

Perhaps someone thought that would make it stiffer for some reason.

    Ex Ex degreewheel

:dave, thanks for the reply, took degreewheel and hub to machine shop just out of curiousity.this thing has so many welds, pins, plugs,we decided to spin it up and check the balance.almost 3 grams out.decided from safety issue to trash it.not to mention it slid off the end of the crank without a puller;hello RCD. as always your insight and help is greatly appreciated, harry

Only 3 grams? While not perfection it is unlikely that it would have caused an issue.
    You didn't mean 3 oz/in did you? NOW that's a problem.
