Exhaust Valves

    Has anyone ever had the head if a ti exhaust valve come away from the stem? They were on the 6 th run from new. I believe it is from too much heat, and either stretched or was bent from heat and when then hit the seat, took the head off. They are on Brad heads with 1359 springs.

    Hope to hear any other reasons why this might have happened.

    Who's valves where they..... We had nothing but trouble with stealth/trick valves they would fail on the first pass..... Several others had the same issue....

    Anything is possible, Titanium by nature does not really deal with heat well. It doesn't dissipate heat very well either, that is why we run the Ti valves with the copper beryillum seats. THe copper gets rid of the heat well and the beryillum strengthens it. I have had my fair share of titanium exhaust valve and seat issues, and I do believe that most of the issue is a material/heat issue, but I have not broken an exhaust off at the head yet. If you run low timing (fuel burning as it is going out of the exhaust, high EGT's) or a high duration camshaft (little time for valve to be on seat to transfer heat into the seat) you can compound the issues with exhaust valve. There are several options from a couple of different manufactures that offer a high temperature alloy for the exhaust side. They are going to be a bit heavier than Titanium, but if max RPM isn't an issue for you, it might work out well. Don't forget that Titanium has a working memory.
