Due to class rules can't run zoomies, and i have to run some kind of muffler, rules dosen't specify anything.

my problem is that my engine keeps tearing my mufflers apart. after every event i have gone to i seem to be tigging on my "mufflers" Is that just the way it goes or is there a better solution to this?

    here are some pictures:

    Vortex cones in the collectors?

Is that damage from impact or what?

No the damage is the problem, and it is not from impact, it just keeps tearing up the "muffler"

Id have to guess that the chamber is too big. What I mean by that is the side that is torn up probably needs some support in the middle to keep the metal from vibrating itself to death. Try bending a Z shaped piece and weld it down the center so 2 cylinders are entering on each side.

Several years ago I built some side extenders for my semi. They are used to reduce the air gap between the tractor and trailer. The were a flat aluminum sheet bolted to the sleeper and supported in back with just an angled bar. Going down the road the center of the sheet flopped about badly and almost resembled a flag waving in the wind. The cure was bolting two straps of aluminum 1 1/2 X 3/16 so the sheet was divided in thirds. No more flopping for years after that.

If youre unclear on my description Id be happy to talk on the phone.

While maybe vibration is the reason, I think its fuel. We dyno'd our blower motor and could not use zoomies but had to use "regular" collector style headers which were connected to two large outdoor mufflers via 8" stainless steel flex hose. That hose was loosely put over the header collectors. Our motor put out so much unburnt fuel at idle that once the rpms came up and the exhaust temp got hot enough, it ignited that excess fuel blowing the hose out of the mufflers. Scared the hell out of us thinking something had went wrong with the motor. Had to tie the ss hose to the collectors and the mufflers but it still exploded every run. If you are building up fuel in those mufflers, reinforcement isn't going to help. Small vortex style on each individual pipe would work much better. Good luck!

    BUILD SOME ZOOFLERS!!!

Run your zoomies into a flowmaster muffler turned sideways and cap the ends, then run 4 more out of it.. I run a flowmaster 5 inch bullet on lemons headers and have had great success with those. BUT I PLAN ON THESE in 2010

That is a nice setup but I think the original poster is not allowed to run zoomies, must have collectors. I have seen people get around this in the past by building a short (4" or so) 'collector' that is basically an extended skirt around all of the zoomies.

That is indeed a nice setup outlaw, if it works.... looking at it, it looks to me like a cracked exhaust waiting to happen, i mean dumping into a large container, that then has a smaller exit than the volume of the container, basicly i think that is the cause of my current problems.

@ timemachine yes and no my problem is that rules just specify no zoomies, everything else is fine, that is why i just made mine with the primaries dumping into an empty box. To be honest i don't they would fuss about having 4 pipe ends on the exhaust instead of just one big oval opening.

the real problem here is that when my exhaust opened up in the bottom i vented out on to a fiberglass panel that caught fire. i mean i know that alcohol engines are hard on the exhaust and i don't mind having to do the odd repair here and there, but there is clearly somthing wrong with my current setup.
