What is the best engine combo for a lencodrive application,2400 lb funnycar? Big bore, Small Stroke? I have 4.31 bore 4.5 stroke Brad 3 heads but I dont think it is an ideal combo. Blower is 16/71 hi-helix retro, only run outlaw dyo class, 6.50 et cutoff.

    cid hp vs. torque

as evidenced by mick snyder.... a small motor with the lencodrive appears to be the way to go. he runs a 470 cid engine, we run a 496. these things make so much torque with the multiplication of the converter, they are real animals in low gear.

i'm one of the subscribers to the theory that more cubes on a blower motor doesn't make more hp. it does make more torque, but with a converter, you don't need it, and you will make your blower more efficient. with a blower motor the cubes are on top of the intake.

if you talk to brad anderson, roger olander, fred mandoline and other real smart people that have actually seen these motors on a dyno...they'll tell you cubes don't make more hp.

with the brad fuel heads...i dont know if big bore is the answer...you'll just make an even heavier piston. i would get rid of some stroke and get the cid below 500. i know of a certain clutch car with veney heads that has been over 260 on occasion that runs a 496 combo.

Word is that this "certain clutch car" will re-appear with a Lencodrive behind that small motor in the next month or so....

Congrats on your decsion to go with the lencodrive. Will is right on the torque multiplication of a convertor. My friend and i have been running a donovan unit in a 2900 pound Q16 - T/S car with a blown hemi. TFX block, a.j. heads, 1471 scs, msd 20 and enderle 110 with absolutely no problem. The lencodrive is a far superior piece though as it has no external lines and electronic clutchpack style transbrake versus the pneumatic on the donovan. Who's convertor will you be using? We use an aluminum Neil Chance but that was bought before Coan came out with their two piece design. The Snyders say the Coan is a better performing unit. May i suggest installing a footbrake in place of the clutch pedal? With a footbrake and transbrake button on the butterfly there's no need for one handed flights until you hit the chutes. I know of one instance on a certain bumpy track when Mick's rear tires were airborn for... way to long through the traps. Mick said he had his body completely sideways yanking on the handbrake waiting for the brakes to hit because he thought the brakes were gone. Good luck on your transition. You're smart for getting an early start aheahd of the T/A crowd these are the wave of the future. Sooner or later they all will be switching over. Aside from being more predictable on marginal tracks they are much more aforedable to run than buying a year's worth of discs and paying hotel rooms and meals for another crewguy. Sit back and relax between rounds like the Snyders do. I've always been jealous of their between rounds service!

I have sourced a 3.95 inch stroke crank and am wondering if this will suffice? Also what static compression to start with?

    2 piece converter

even though i don't run a supercharger i'll throw in my 2 cents worth on both the lenco drive and the 2 piece converter. my motor has over 1600 hp with over 1400 ft pounds of torque over a 2000 rpm band. the dragster weighs a little over 1900 pounds wet with driver. i recently had coan build a 2 piece converter (vs a coan 10" converter). the inital results were - gained .25 and 6 mph in the 1/8 mile. also dragster now leaves without hitting the wheelie bar. the 60' times stayed the same 1.02/1.04. would you be willing to gain these results with only a converter change? coan worked real well for me - walker at coan was my guy who put my setup on this track.
