While NHRA is tweeking WHERE we earn points, (Keep in mind that's really all that the region idea does anyway.) does anyone feel that we should earn points differently?

I believe for the good of the class it should be structured to where we get 20 points to qualify, plus qualifying position points for the top 8 just like the pros, then 20 points per round win.

Pro mod has its own structure, would we be better off adopting that? Stay the same? What's your opinion?

I guess the reasoning is that I don't think winning a Divisional (Soon to be Regional whatever) where 2 cars showed up should be worth the EXACT same amount of points as winning the US nationals. (Just as an example)

    penalty..

The other side of that coin is I don't think a team should be penalized for supporting an event when others don't show. If I was chasing a championship, pulled into a race that only had 4 cars, so there wouldn't be full points for the win, I would more than likely not turn a tech card in and load up, making the problem worse. Some wouldn't, but I think other racers chasing a championship might think along those lines. Same for someone chasing a national championship. What really would end up happening is if you didn't know that a certain amount of cars were pre-entered, you wouldn't even go.

I'm all for qualifying points. In Europe we get qualifying points and whoever has low et at the end of the weekend gets another 5 points. If you are chasing the championship, you really can't afford to sit out a session because you want every chance you have to improve your qualifying position and try to get low et.

Somewhere in there, you might be able to make somewhat of a compromise with qualifying points to achieve your goal of making low car count races equal with full count races. If you get 8 points for low qualifier at a full field, maybe you only get 4 points for a 4 car field. The risk, is again, some might not show as mentioned above.

I do like the idea of 7/10 nationals and 3/5 regionals. It would let some of the teams going after national points to focus more on that while letting some other teams focus more on their regional events.

I guess the question we should ask is if we end up with about 28 races to go to between the two regions, what should be the split for regional champions?

4 of 7 to offset the travel? 4 of 8? keep it at 5 of 8? How many in-region races mandatory?

Ya know what's funny, living on the island of Utah where your 3 closest races are in 3the different divisions this region deal is perfect...

As for the # of races to count toward the championship.

It should be nationally: 7/10 nats and 3/6 regions.

Regionally Count the best 5/6 so the travel and attendance isn't rewarded as much as the results of the races.

I think championships should go to the "best" racers, not the one that goes the most which gives them the most chances to makeup for their failures at other events.
