Top Alcohol Qualifying - Session Three
Please note that the winner's name has been bolded for ease of recognition. Please also note that the top competitor has chosen the left "Wynn's Spitfire" lane, while the bottom competitor has chosen the right "K & N Filters" lane.
    Time of Session: 9:15 P.M.
    Temperature: 21 Degrees
    Humidity: 65%
    Track Temperature: 42 Degrees
Name Reaction 60 Foot E.T. MPH
    Steven Reed 0.140 0.966 5.672 255.05
    Damien Harris Broke
Steven Reed and Damien Harris open the final session of Nulon Top Alcohol qualifying. Reed is the current number four qualifier, while Harris sits in number seven. Harris has problems in the burnout, in what has become a shocking night for the West Aussies. Steve Reed will go on a solo. Reed runs straight down the lane, and posts an amazing 5.672, at 255 M.P.H. He will sit in the number two position by just one one-thousandth of a second to Brett Stevens.
Name Reaction 60 Foot E.T. MPH
    Ben Bray 0.131 0.960 5.575 257.04
    Mark Brew 0.103 1.000 5.890 244.78
Currently not in this Top Alcohol field, Mark Brew takes on Ben Bray in this final qualifying session. Bray runs right down the lane, and runs the quickest ever Top Alcohol funny car pass, a 5.575 at 257 M.P.H. Brew also goes into the field, in number eight, and Gary Phillips is bumped.
Name Reaction 60 Foot E.T. MPH
    Debbie Reed 0.078 1.008 5.772 248.25
    Dean Oakey 0.069 0.069 5,751 241.15
Debbie Reed and Dean Oakey move forward in the next pairing, and Oakey sits in the number five position, while Oakey sits in number six. Both competitors run straight down the lane, and this is a great drag race, a 5.77 at 248 M.P.H., and Oakey manages a 5.75. Oakey will stay in number five, Reed in number six.
Name Reaction 60 Foot E.T. MPH
    Wayne Newby 0.143 0.946 5.712 245.18
    Gary Phillips 0.124 0.957 5.809 243.59
Gary Phillips is the number nine qualifier coming into this final session of Top Alcohol, and will need to better a 5.89 to move into the field. Brew is on the bump. Newby sits in the number four position. Phillips goes into the field in the number seven position with a 5.809, and Newby stays in number four with a 5.712. Brew is bumped from the field, and this is the quickest ever Top Alcohol field, headed by the quickest ever Alcohol funny-car.
Name Reaction 60 Foot E.T. MPH
    Brett Stevens 0.547 0.955 5.668 254.14
    Solo
Now the number two qualifier Brett Stevens is the final competitor to hit the track in Top Alcohol. Brett has seen Ben run the quickest pass in a methanol powered funny-car in this country, and will ring the Mustang’s neck to get the number one spot back. Stevens runs all over his lane, but still runs a 5.66 at 254 M.P.H.
    ####################################################
Keep in mind they run against dragsters in the Alcohol class and the F/C are at 125 over , but it is still a huge step for racing in OZ.
Congrats to Ben and all the Crew ...... Good job keeping your Dad away from the car ! Atchison Racing.
