Turned-Up Racing Mission LODRS event preview and qualifying results

Doug Hegge and his A/Fuel team out of Vancouver, Washington, were excited to get to the sea level air at Mission Raceway for the BC Lordco Nationals. It is the first stop in the Division Six Lucas Oil Series.

After qualifying at three National events earlier this year, the team wants to put up some Divisional points on their scoreboard. With the new rules implemented over the winter for the A/Fuel cars, the team is still working on their revised tune-up.

They smoked the tires in their first test run Thursday and then ran a 5.60 second elapsed time at 261 mph to set them up for Friday’s first qualifying session. In that first qualifier, they negotiated the Mission, BC track in 5.53 seconds at 261 mph- their quickest lap under the new rules. “We were pretty happy with that run and we feel we can improve and get well into the 5.40’s on Saturday,” stated Hegge Friday evening.

Hegge was close in his prediction for Saturday, as in the second round of qualifying they went out and improved to a 5.48 ET at 260 mph, but it was not enough to move up the ladder. The final session was in the heat of the day so the methodical task of inching forward with the tune-up would be difficult. The car did the burnout, but mechanical issues forced Hegge to shut off the car. The end result was the number six spot and a first round matchup with 2008 division champion Joey Severance.

The Technology based TAD team is happy to have a new tech based sponsor on board for a number of events this season. BrightSign (a Ruku company) are the next generation digital sign controllers. Along with Bright Sign, The team is happy to have Radford Trucking, Total Impact Wear, Spitzer Composites, Goodson and especially the entire Reichert family for all their guidance.

The crew includes Randy, Casey, Tim, Kym, Rhett and Dad.
