Hudson hoping to rebound at home track

SONOMA, Calif. - After suffering a disappointing first round loss at last week's Fram-Autolite Nationals, NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car pilot Don Hudson and his Red Line Oil backed team will be looking for a rebound as the action returns to Infineon Raceway for this weekend's Division 7 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event. Hudson hopes to replace the memory of last weekend with a strong showing in front of his hometown fans.

Hudson, from nearby Stockton, Calif., feels it will be a dogfight not only to win, but to qualify.

"A lot of the teams from last weekend are staying over," said Hudson. "It was a tough field last week with a 16 car field, then you try to put that in an eight car field, it's going to be brutal. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the bump spot in the 5.60's."

"With that in mind, we're kind of throwing caution to the wind and getting after it," Hudson continued. "We ran .60's here last weekend, and that's where we'll be looking to land this weekend."

He also looks forward to an opportunity at redemption from last weekend's first round loss.

"This is a big race for us because we have so many friends, family and sponsors in this area," stated Hudson. "We ran real well last weekend, but just got beat by a real tough competitor in Brian Hough. The car has been running strong the last few outings, so hopefully we can get a win at my home track for Red Line Oil, Jimmy Vasser Chevrolet, Delta Rubber, Vornhagen Body and Paint, Central Auto, and Fuel Delivery Services."

Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars, with two more sessions on Saturday. Final eliminations conclude the event on Sunday.
