I was watching the ESPN broadcast of the Lucas Oil Series a few weeks back and I saw something I have never seen before. A top alcohol dragster launched what appeared to be the reverser or a section of the trans right out of the chassis and bounce down the track. I have never seen that before and I am wondering what could cause that type of failure. I am researching going to a clutch/lenco setup in my FED and definitely don't want to have a trans in my lap. Did anybody see this and know what happened?

The trans was a B&J, the car was Federlin's.

They are still investigating, but the apparent cause was the inner bolts that hold the case together either sheered or pulled out, resulting in catasrophic failure. Freak, freak deal.

I have quite a bit of experience with both mfg's, Lenco & B&J. Both make excellent products and excellent customer service. Good people run both.
