Rookie Harker takes home the ‘Wally’ at BIR for her first NHRA win

Brainerd, MN - Australian drag racing rookie, Diana Harker made it to her first career NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster final too take home the ‘Wally’ for the Lend America, Randy Meyer Racing Team at this weekend’s LODRS Division Five Event held at Brainerd International Raceway.

Inspired by her father, Steve’s recent win in the Alcohol Funny Car class only a week prior at the LODRS Division Four Event, the 25-year old rookie was determined to keep the family name on the hitter’s list and did so by claiming her first ever number one qualifying spot after making a career best pass of 5.30et at 256mph.

Round One matched Harker against the newest member of the A/Fuel club, Jared Dreher. Harker took the start line advantage and never looked back charging through to take the win with a 5.53et at 237mph pass defeating Dreher’s 6.17et at 227mph pass.

Harker would be unopposed going into the Semi-Finals making a solo pass and putting down another impressive run of 5.45et at 232mph advancing the rookie to her first ever career final in the NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster class in only her second Division race for the season.

The Final round looked set to be a tough race as Harker paired up against the blown dragster of veteran racer, Ed Schmeeckle. Both teams watched on as Harker and Schmeeckle were side-by-side all the way to the finish line but it would be Harker taking the hole shot win after laying down a 5.52et at 252mph run to defeat Schmeeckle’s 5.51et at 263mph pass with 0.0131 margin of victory.

“It is an incredible feeling to win my first race here in the United States and one that I will always cherish but I wouldn’t have made it this far without my team. They all work extremely hard and do a fantastic job to give me one of the fastest hot rods on the property making my job easier. This win is for Randy, Mary and their whole team for their dedication and support for me and our program.” Said Harker

Harker’s Lend America A/Fuel Team now moves on to compete at the Meyer Family home town track in Topeka, KS for the NHRA O’Reilly Summer Nationals this weekend, May 29-31. Harker will also be joined by her father, Steve in the Top Alcohol Funny Car class.
