diamond friction washer

    is there a diamond washer for hemi crank hub.. I'm getting alot of gauling between the hub and crank gear.. psi splined crank snout.

    Bill, Would a Torrington needle bearing thrust washer between the faces help? They are ~62Rc hardness.
    TRA-2435 is 1.500" ID x 2.187" OD x 0.030" Thick.
    Spin it up in the lathe and die grind the ID to suit the crank OD.
    Never used one before, it's just a suggestion to separate two similar steels and hardness from gauling together.

    This is what we use and also torque the bolt to 450#s no more gauling we get a l19 bolt and special bellville washer from automan that keeps things tight

    Ok, dumb question........

    If it is a spline snout deal, why would there be any galling issues, assuming the crank & hub splines were compatible ?

    You only need microscopic movement between two similar metals in conjunction with pressure/force and gauling can occur. There will always be some minute clearance between the splines.

    We used to get galling between the crank/gear and gear/hub (not the splines) on the big show car. The mating surface area is rather small (square inch wise) which leads to a high likelihood of galling should any movement occur. The fix we found was to use a high pressure grease between the parts and on the splines for ease of installation/removal accompanied by a torque of 325 ft/lb on the bolt (in our case a 6 inch bolt) using "peanut butter" (Detroit Diesel International Compound #2). More torque needed if not using "peanut butter"

    Is the RCD spline deal any better than the PSI spline deal ?.......
