    Taylor Tops Woodburn Qualifiers

ANAHEIM, CA — Dennis Taylor gave his hard-working crew something to crow about after lighting the scoreboards at Woodburn Dragstrip with a 5.83-second run, which stood for the number-one qualifying effort. He had previously run a safe 5.97 out of the trailer on Friday. The early session on Saturday resulted in a tire smoking 7.39, which showed them the track wouldn’t hold as much power as they tried to give it. Taylor mentioned, “I had to pedal it but it had spun the tires so hard the car got way out of the groove and drifted towards the wall. I fought it back but couldn’t salvage the run. We’re confident we can run a good number.”

Co-crew chief, Ora Vasquez noted, “We put a tried and true tune-up in it for the last session and everything just worked out for us.” The scoreboards displayed a 5.83 for their efforts and Vasquez added, “We’re proud to be the top qualifier here.” Accomplishments like that serve as a huge reward for the Plumbing Concepts crew, as their work ethic is second to none. But right after that run, they were already getting the car ready for Final Eliminations.

During Sunday’s first round, the team’s methodical preparation paid off, as Dennis ripped off a stellar 5.78 at 252.73 mph while turning the win light on. Those numbers served as Low E.T. and Top Sped of the Meet, making Taylor even more proud of his crew. That set up a big Semi-Final match with fellow Division 7 racer, Sean Bellemeur, who Dennis tangled with at the Fontana points race. Taylor chose the right lane and ran a strong 5.84, but lost a close one to Bellemeur’s 5.80. Taylor was pleased with this weekend’s accomplishments, and thanks the great fans in Woodburn for their support. He also noted this event’s tight field and close competition. The team heads to Seattle on July 20.
