Taylor Eager to Defend at Woodburn

ANAHEIM, CA — Dennis Taylor and his Plumbing Concepts crew is ready, willing and able to defend their 2005 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series victory at Oregon’s Woodburn Dragstrip. The annual trip to Woodburn serves as a springboard to NHRA national events in Seattle, Washington and Sonoma, California (back to back), followed by the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event also held at Sonoma in early August. This is the first of four races in five weeks.

Actually, Taylor has been in the finals two years in a row at Woodburn, both against Bucky Austin, “The Northwest Hitter,” having scored a runner-up finish two years ago and returning to win it all in 2005. Taylor and his crew will use their experience during qualifying and eliminations while aiming for the same results as last year. A planned test session on Thursday should reveal just what the Woodburn’s track surface will hold for Friday qualifying.

Traditionally, a heavy car count is part and parcel to Woodburn’s legacy and Taylor expects anywhere from 12 to 14 Top Alcohol Funny Cars to be ready for battle. Dennis mentioned, “With Ora Vasquez (Crew Chief) calling the shots, we have a good chance wherever we go. He’s had a great deal of success at tracks like this, so we can’t help but feel confident going in.” Vasquez added, “We’re ready for the kind of performance that makes headlines in the local newspaper and this is as good a place as any to go for it.”
