    Taylor Battling in Division 6

ANAHEIM, CA — This weekend, Dennis Taylor competes at Woodburn Dragstrip in Oregon, which should prove to be a tough contest with a mixture of Northwestern and Southwestern competitors. The Plumbing Concepts Team can only hope for a consistent race track – one that will provide enough traction to utilize the abundance of horsepower they have available. Taylor explained, “Today’s Top Alcohol cars are much like nitro cars were 10 years ago. They make enough power to smoke the tires all the way to the finish line. To be successful, we need to apply the power at half-track and most Divisional race tracks don’t have enough grip in the middle. Much like the weather, the track is the great equalizer – it’s the same for everybody.”

Aside from last weekend’s short appearance during Final Eliminations, Taylor visited the “money round” in his previous two outings – one of which was postponed and is still yet to be decided. Crew chief, Ora Vasquez stated, “The weathermen are predicting temperatures in the mid 80s throughout the event, so if that type of consistency proves true, at least one variable will be constant.”

Co-crew chief, Terry Morrow added, “Like Dennis said, the middle of the track is our biggest challenge here. Most of these facilities don’t have enough rubber built up from the end of the launch pad to the finish line, and that’s where Top Alcohol cars really haul the mail. We expect to de-tune the car in order to get through there. Once we establish a baseline, we’ll have a better idea of what the track will hold.” The initial goal is for the Plumbing Concepts Funny Car to lay down a decent run in the first qualifying session. Then, the tuning decisions will come much easier. Taylor closed by saying, “We’re the outsiders in Division 6 and all these guys will be gunning for us.”
