    Taylor Tempered for Topeka Turnaround

ANAHEIM, CA — After an uncharacteristic layoff, Dennis Taylor and his Plumbing Concepts crew is eager to roll into Heartland Park Topeka for this weekend’s O’Reilly Summer Nationals. The recent layoff was unplanned, as the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Division 7 event at Famoso Raceway near Bakersfield, California, was postponed due to the fabled track’s repaving project. However, Dennis and his crew weren’t completely idle during that time.

One weekend was spent chasing the gremlins that have plagued the team so far this year. To that end, Crew Chief, Ora Vasquez, has been working tirelessly to solve their performance shortcomings. With time to spare, they loaded up and headed to test during a regular bracket program, using an unprepared track with a bit of altitude thrown in for good measure. Dennis noted, “Ora made several changes and the car really seemed to respond. The conditions weren’t perfect, but we just needed a few extra laps to prove some theories we’ve been focusing on.” Vasquez added, “We made a couple of runs where Dennis shut the car off before the finish line and it still ran in the 5.70s. We did that because the track didn’t have much rubber on the high end and we were very encouraged by what we saw.” Be sure to watch the Topeka Sportsman show, featuring Top Alcohol Funny Cars, along with Dennis Taylor’s Tech Tips, June 4th at 12:00pm (ET) on ESPN2.

Price Pfister Pfaucet of Pfacts: Taylor carries 50 gallons of methanol onboard his trailer, as well as 40 gallons of Lucas Oil. The fuel is carried in safety jugs, as opposed to hauling a full 55-gallon drum. His oil remains in factory-sealed containers until it’s used.
