    Taylor Inspired by Infineon Performance

ANAHEIM, CA — For the second week in a row, Dennis Taylor tangled with the cream of the crop at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California. This time, it was the Pacific Division 7 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event, where 15 cars battled for the eight-car qualified field. Taylor rolled out on Friday afternoon and surprisingly overpowered the track. Though conditions were good, Dennis remained confident, knowing that recent performance gains would prove themselves on Saturday.

Sure enough, the first session on the following day saw the scoreboards light up with a fine 5.67-second run at 245.40 mph. After analyzing the data from their onboard computer, Crew Chief, Ora Vasquez, knew consistency was more important than “swinging for the fence.” That philosophy yielded a respectable 5.70 at 251. The Plumbing Concepts Camaro was locked solidly in the number five position, giving the crew some additional inspiration going forward.

Sunday’s Final Eliminations brought temperatures in the mid 70s with a bit less air to tune with, as the corrected altitude was just over 1,700 feet above sea level. In the first round, Dennis drew the number four car, but his opponent left before the green light. The Plumbing Concepts car drove through tire shake and wheel spin, but still managed a 5.78 at 251 mph, advancing to the second round.

Taylor’s next opponent was fellow Division 7 racer, Steve Gasparrelli, who also flies the Plumbing Concepts colors. Up for the challenge, knowing the two were well matched on power, Dennis scored a slight four-thousandths starting line advantage and lead Steve past half-track, but Gasparrelli had enough top-end power to get by, running 5.65 to Taylor’s charging 5.69. Dennis and his crew will return home to prepare the car for Bakersfield, California, August 25-26.
