Taylor Tuned for Fine Whine in Sonoma

ANAHEIM, CA — Coming off a weekend in Seattle that yielded several encouraging moments, Dennis Taylor and his Plumbing Concepts Funny Car crew is ready to focus on Sonoma, California. Instead of relaxing and stopping to sample offerings from the area’s world-class vintners, Taylor’s guys have tuned the car to produce a methanol-urged “fine whine,” instead. The promise of cooler conditions will likely result in a dogfight for the 22 cars pre-entered, but Taylor stated, “I feel as though we’ve turned the corner and our recent data tells us we’re fully capable of running with the top cars again.”

Forecasters are calling for temperatures in the low 80s, which is a good 20 degrees cooler than last weekend’s battle in Seattle. Once again, Dennis has enlisted the assistance of renowned tuners, Steve Boggs and Grant Stoms to help analyze the power combinations developed by his respected Crew Chief, Ora Vasquez. This merely ensures that 100-plus years of drag racing experience is double checking each critical adjustment. Vasquez mentioned, “When you race at this level, you can’t help but respect your peers and our ability to run consistently in last weekend’s heat is testament to our working relationship.”

Dennis added, “Power has never been a problem this season. Managing the power and applying it has been our challenge. We feel confident in making the car repeat its performances and as a result, our elapsed times and speeds are on par with where we need to be. Sonoma is a smooth track and I’m looking forward to running great numbers there.”
