Taylor Pumped for Battle in Seattle

ANAHEIM, CA — One of the most famous prize fights in history was dubbed “The Thrilla in Manila.” For Dennis Taylor and crew this weekend, it’s the Battle in Seattle. Just mention Seattle and Taylor starts to smile. It’s a place that’s yielded success on the track and at the same time has served as home away from home. Early in his career, Taylor was on the Green Elephant Funny Car crew that was based in the area, so people and places are familiar each time he returns. It was 1996 when Dennis scored a runner-up finish at Pacific Raceways; he won all the marbles in 2004, and returned to post another strong runner-up effort last year.

Naturally, some of that success can be credited to Crew Chief, Ora Vasquez, who also possesses a wealth of experience in the great Northwest. Over his career, Ora has worked with the most successful teams ever to compete from the Seattle area. Vasquez said, “I like our chances this weekend, in spite of the fact that 20 cars are pre-entered” (for the 16-car field).

The Plumbing Concepts Camaro is coming off a veritable rebound, having competed recently in Woodburn, Oregon, where the car responded to treatment and a new set of Mickey Thompson drag slicks provided favorable traction. Dennis mentioned, “The guys at Mickey Thompson have worked very hard to develop these new tires and we appreciate their support of our program. We ran them all weekend in Woodburn and we have another set ready for Seattle.”
