Taylor Tries for Northwest Double-Up

ANAHEIM, CA — Dennis Taylor comes into this weekend’s Northwest Division 6 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Pacific Raceways as defending champion. His Plumbing Concepts Funny Car has seen a great deal of success in Seattle, having runner-upped at that track’s national event last year, scored runner-up finishes on two other trips, and also won back in 2004. Dennis said, “This has been an odd season. After the re-shuffling of one event, we had an unusually long layoff between races. However, we used the time to our advantage.”

The downtime allowed Taylor and his crew to completely disassemble the race car and inspect every nut and bolt. The end result uncovered potential problems with some key components. Taylor added, “I’m pleased that we were able to take a step back and really search for what we now feel may have contributed to our recent inconsistency. These cars are so advanced, the normal between-rounds, or between-events teardown doesn’t always allow extra time to analyze and study each and every component on the car. The time off was actually a blessing in disguise. We feel confident and better prepared.”

For this event, Top Alcohol cars qualify on Friday at 3:00, 6:00, and 9:00pm, with Eliminations set to begin Saturday at 3:00pm. Taylor’s crew chief, Terry Morrow, commented, “Just like Dennis, I also have experience running up here. Fortunately, I’ve had a pretty good handle on the track in the past.” In this case, the weather could be the equalizer, as a “few showers” are expected for Friday, while Saturday promises to be cloudy with temps in the low 60s. Dennis expects a top-quality field that’s likely to include several Canadian cars, a host of Division 7 competitors, as well as the ever-strong contingent of Division 6 regulars. It promises to be an old fashioned Northwest shootout.
