    Houston Brings Unusual Challenges

ANAHEIM, CA — Like all teams, Dennis Taylor’s Plumbing Concepts crew arrives at this weekend’s O’Reilly Spring Nationals with heavy hearts and a great deal on their minds. Engines are scheduled to thunder again just one week after the tragic passing of Funny Car driver, Eric Medlen, a member of John Force’s “Next Generation” of racers. Since Taylor manufactures safety equipment for Team Force and a Plumbing Concepts crew member worked for John, the close ties and friendships bring respect and understanding in this difficult time.

Dennis Taylor comes off a confidence boosting Winternationals, where his Top Alcohol Funny Car ran strong. The second event of 2007 didn’t produce the same results, though the team was never short on power. Drawing comparisons between Pomona and Houston, Taylor looks forward to running on a premium track surface prepared to national event standards by the NHRA Safety Safari. Taylor said, “Our car really likes national events. It seems to find its balance more easily and allows us to run quick and consistent. We have some things to prove to ourselves and this track should provide the opportunity to do so.”

Co-crew chiefs Ora Vasquez and Terry Morrow are both aware that big numbers are possible at this track. Ora stated, “We’ll keep an eye on the weather and tune accordingly. Terry and I feel we’re capable of ‘team best’ performance numbers and it’ll take this type of facility to achieve that.”

The Spring Nationals will certainly be no cake walk. As things stack up going in, 20 quality cars are pre entered for the 16-car field, including recent Gatornationals winner, Mickey Ferro traveling all the way from Division 1. With Houston situated in NHRA’s South Central Division 4, Dennis Taylor has always enjoyed racing in this area and has high hopes for a productive outing.
