Consistency Sends Taylor to the Finals

ANAHEIM, CA — Good things come to those who work hard, and that’s exactly what Dennis Taylor and his Plumbing Concepts crew did this past weekend racing Auto Club Dragway at California Speedway. Taylor seized the opportunity to test on Thursday prior to the event’s opening day, and the extra data proved helpful. With cool and overcast conditions for Friday’s opening round of qualifying, most crew chiefs rolled the dice, not knowing what the track would hold. As such, Dennis built too much wheel speed, shook the tires, and crossed the center line near half track, negating the run.

Adjustments were made before Saturday’s session and Taylor’s Camaro thundered to a fine 5.72 at 250 mph before a large group of employees from Plumbing Concepts. The final qualifier saw the team overpower the track, but they still qualified in the fourth position, which brought lane choice in round one.

Sunday ushered in warmer temps with readings of 78 degrees for the opening session while the racing surface registered 105. Taylor picked the right lane, cut a good light and took the win with a nice 5.77 at just under 250 mph. Round two brought consistency as Taylor’s 5.81 prevailed, setting up the final against Sean Bellemeur. Dennis was pleased with his crew, as well, mentioning, “My co-crew chiefs Ora Vasquez and Terry Morrow have a great deal to be proud of this weekend. They made some calculated decisions that have paid off, as the car is running more consistently than it has all season. I’m fortunate to have such a good bunch of guys that work so well together.” The final round pitted two equally matched race cars where either could take the win but when the pipes went silent, Bellemeur came out on top, thanks to a slight starting line advantage, running 5.80 to Taylor’s 5.84.
