Taylor Fixing to Figure Out Fontana

ANAHEIM, CA —Dennis Taylor’s Plumbing Concepts Top Alcohol Funny Car is ready to thunder at Auto Club Dragway in Fontana, California, during this weekend’s Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Pacific Division 7 contest. Having chased a new engine combination in 2006, Taylor’s last outing began to show signs of success. Crew Chief, Ora Vasquez, has worked tirelessly to turn this program around and get back to the team’s previous performance level, as displayed with two consecutive national Top-10 rankings in 2004 and 2005.

Vasquez is familiar with running these cars in oppressive heat, and forecasters are calling for temperatures to top out at 105 in the Fontana area. Ora mentioned, “We always have challenges running these cars. This weekend, we’ve got a completely new track surface that’s only had a couple of events run on it. I think it’ll take a great deal of common sense to be successful here.”

Taylor added, “I can’t wait to get in the car. We’re testing a new set of Mickey Thompson tires on Thursday and the whole team is eager to see how they perform. We’re adding some downforce to the body in order to compensate for the areas we feel will present the greatest challenge, and by doing that we’ll give up some top-end speed. All in all, I think we’re on target for a good weekend, in spite of the weather conditions. Each team has the same air to run in, so it’s just a matter of who makes the right calls.”

Price Pfister Pfaucet of Pfacts: Though not mandatory, over the winter, Dennis installed carbon fiber protection panels on the roll cage, similar to those mandated on dragsters. This was done because they increase safety and prevent the potential of debris entering the driver’s compartment.
