    Taylor Primed for Hometown Showdown

ANAHEIM, CA —Dennis Taylor and his Plumbing Concepts crew are looking forward to racing close to home at this weekend’s Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event. Auto Club Dragway at California Speedway will host this tough Pacific Division 7 battle, but optimism is high. Last year, this race was scheduled in the summer where oppressive conditions prevailed. Taylor mentioned, “Granted, weather conditions are the same for all of us (racers), but last year’s high temperatures just made it tougher on the crew and the equipment. Although extra challenges are present when we race at tracks that don’t host a national event, we feel the favorable forecast just may be the equalizer here.”

Like all Division 7 contests, there’s likely to be as many as 16 Top Alcohol Funny Cars entered for the eight-car qualified field. Dennis commented, “It’s important for us to establish a strong baseline run in the first session, so we can tune it from there.” In order to accomplish that, the Plumbing Concepts team plans to test on Thursday, in hopes of arming co-crew chiefs Ora Vasquez and Terry Morrow with additional tuning data.

Ora told us, “This is a great track, but it doesn’t see lots of high-horsepower cars, so I don’t expect to see much rubber from half track on. That could be critical because these cars generate lots of wheel speed through the entire run.” Terry continued saying, “We have the power, but it all comes down to balancing the engine and the clutch. We can’t afford to overpower the track, but excessive caution won’t get us in (qualified) either.”

Dennis Taylor expects to entertain as many as 100 guests and executives from his primary sponsor, Plumbing Concepts, which maintains its headquarters nearby in Anaheim, California.
