ANAHEIM, CA — Dennis Taylor always gets pumped up when it’s time to head north to Bakersfield’s storied Famoso Raceway. It’s a place where legends have been made for decades and a place that brings an extra measure of pride if you land in the winner’s circle. Actually, the entire Plumbing Concepts team feels right at home racing Bakersfield and this weekend’s Pacific Division 7 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event promises to be a good one.

History proves that Division 7 provides some of the most hotly contested match-ups, when compared with the six other NHRA geographical regions from coast to coast. Car counts are always high, and so is the level of competition. Crew Chief Ora Vasquez keeps that in mind as he studies his volumes of computer and weather data in order to tune for the available conditions. Lately, Dennis and the crew have found the consistency they’ve been searching for throughout the 2006 campaign. The upside to those recent performances has resulted in very little breakage, as the routine during off weeks has included normal disassembly and careful inspection of all the components.

Forecasters are calling for temperatures in the mid-to-upper 90s, so traction on the all-new racing surface will be an unknown quantity under those conditions. Vasquez mentioned, “We’ve been running in brutal heat all summer, so that’s just one of the variables we factor in. I’ve been focused on getting more results for the hard work our crew has been putting in and it’s paying off.”
