    Taylor Tends to Unfinished Business

ANAHEIM, CA — Two months ago, Dennis Taylor trucked up to Pacific Raceways in Kent, Washington, to try and make things miserable for his friends in Division 6. The Plumbing Concepts Top Alcohol Funny Car ran well despite a few challenges and Taylor’s team worked hard all weekend. Co-crew chiefs Ora Vasquez and Terry Morrow made the right calls even though atmospheric conditions were changing constantly. Those calls put Dennis in the final after two big round wins, but delays earlier in the day forced the final to be postponed.

That final contest was originally rescheduled during the Schuck’s NHRA Nationals at Pacific Raceways just two weeks later. Well, weather problems made that impossible, as officials were lucky to get the event finished. There were a few other opportunities, but John Evanchuk, the other finalist, wasn’t attending any of those races. As it stands, both drivers have already been awarded runner-up points, but the winner stands to gain another 21 valuable markers towards his season-ending tally. Good sport that he is, Dennis Taylor agreed to tow all the way to Acton, Montana (20 minutes from Billings), so the winner could be decided at Yellowstone Dragstrip’s Lucas Oil Series event.

Taylor mentioned, “This is the last Lucas Oil Series race where we can claim points in ‘07, so we can only hope for a double-up victory. We could really use the 21 points at stake for the Seattle final, but the winner’s points from Yellowstone would be icing on the cake. We’ll see how it goes.” Although Taylor’s Lucas Oil point-generating opportunities will have been exhausted by this Sunday, he is still eligible for points awarded at NHRA national events and intends to race in Texas and California as his season winds down. Stay tuned as the Plumbing Concepts Funny Car fights for two wins in the same weekend.
