Defnder Head and Neck Restraint

While I was at the Chili Bowl midget race last week I got a chance to check out something really cool. Jerry Coons was wearing a new head and neck support system from a company called a Defnder. I got to pick up and hold one before I left the race and I was impressed. It had a lot of features on it that just made since, the biggest of which was its range of adjustability as far as angle goes so you can adjust it in accordance with the angle your seat is in the car. The part of the restraint that lies against your shoulder/chest is a padded form fitting webbing which has to be more comfortable and bruise far less than a hard plastic or composite. Another advantage I saw was where the belts lay across your shoulders it cradles the belt so they are less likely slide off. The whole device looks really well thought out and well built. In talking to Jerry, he mentioned that ButlerBuilt is selling them and they are only like $550 shipped to your door. They are stickered as meeting SFI 38.1 so they would meet all of the NHRA head and neck requirements.

This model’s chassis, harness flares, stabilizer bar and slide cover are made from a hi-tech injection molded Dupont™ composite.

The DefNder™ real-eaze uses the same hole geometry as specified by the FIA. If your helmet already has holes pre-drilled or has holes drilled to FIA Specifications, you use the same holes.

The range of movement is on par with other devices with the added safety feature of the VST System for stability in angular impacts.

The DefNder™ is adjustable for 20-40 degrees via an adjustment of the stabilizer bar.

You can use any 2- or 3-inch SFI or FIA approved safety harness but please do not use harness pads.
