Hirata Motorsports 2008 Gainesville: Wet and Wild

It’s always great to start out in Gainesville for our opening race, especially when we leave Lowell, IN and its sub 40 degree weather. That’s one of the many highlights the team encountered for their annual trip to Florida.

Unfortunately rain wiped out Fridays qualifying. But the team came back Saturday with an out of the box 5.36 and ended up in the 4 position. Missing one run is so important. We looked at Florida as a test session. That’s a long way, with $4.00 + a gallon diesel fuel, to test, but that was our mind set. First round tire shake ended the weekend. That was the worst tires shake i have had in this car. The shake caused the top mag cap and base to break off and in turn cut some of the bottom mag spark plug wires. That caused the engine to drop cylinders. I guess we’ll be making some mag drive brackets this coming week. We’ll be ready for the division 3 opener at Indy.
