Martinets looking to stay hot in Houston

BAYTOWN, Texas – NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster veteran Darvin Martinets will be looking to stay hot and break through for the first win of his career during this weekend’s Division 4 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at his home track, Houston Raceway Park. Martinets and Team Owner Howie Main have made the final round at three of their last five events and enter the event fourth in Division 4 standings.

Martinets, from just down the road in Lake Jackson, Texas, is not only excited about racing in front of the home town fans, but the opportunity to race in conditions that are forecasted to be some of the warmest of the year.

“Hopefully the weather man is right and it will be hot this weekend,” said Martinets. “The hotter the better. When the weather gets hot, it hurts the A/Fuel cars more than it affects us, so it tips the odds a little better to our favor. That’s not to say we’re going to have an easy go of it by any means. We have some pretty smart A/Fuel tuners in this division, so we’re not taking anything for granted.”

“Any time we race in Houston we have a lot of our friends come by,” Martinets continued. “Howie and I both have done a lot of bracket racing here at Houston Raceway Park over the years. We would love nothing more than to get a win here at our home track for our sponsors Pipe Tools, Cliff’s Bit & Tool, DragRaceHose.com, Goodridge Hoses & Fittings and Rislone Engine Oil Stabilizer.”

The team hopes another strong showing in Houston will put the team back in the thick of the Division 4 Championship hunt.

“We’ve got a pretty tough crowd here in Division 4,” cited Martinets. “We really need to get to the finals to keep our name in the hat. We’ve had a few runner-ups here lately, and a win would be a real shot in the arm for this team. We’re going to give them hell trying.”

Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars with two more sessions on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
