I called and talked to Lenco, and they said the housing is a little bigger than the CS1, they have the same sprags, but the CS2 gear sets are a little smaller.

Is anyone using one of these tranny's in a TAFC?

I'm not worried about parts because we carry some, plus the some of the TAD crowd runs the CS2.

The CS1 case is about a 1 ½ inches narrower, which leaves just enough to room for the drivers’ feet alone side the transmission in today’s narrower cars. If you have an older chassis typically their main frame rails are a little wider and you have the room to use the larger CS2. Hope this is of some help answering your question.

Thanks, we currently own a CS2 and a few gear sets, plus spare parts. My main question is if it's worth switching over to the CS1 style. Plus I am curious how the new design is holding up in a FC.

Any idea when the cars changed? Or does anyone know the measurement of a new or older chassis?

    Thanks,

    C

    Chassis Width

Our old car that we ran the cs2 in was built in the early 90's it was a clone to a McKinney. I don't remember the bottom rail width. I will measure the new car we just finished building and post it later this week. Remember all the car I'm talking about had a "clutch can" mounted clutch pedal, which allows the chassis bottom rail to be narrower. A chassis mounted clutch pedal needs more room along side of the tranny for the mounting brackets and the drivers foot.

I measured the bottom fram rail at the mid plate of the new car, it's 18 inches ID. With a CS1 there is just enough room for the drivers feet and a tranny blanket. You would need at least 19 1/2 to 20 inches between the rails in order to use a CS2. As far as when the chassis width changed, hard to say, that has been a slow process over many years, and continues to evolve. I think the newer car are holding up as good or better than older one, it just depends on how the driver/owner/crew treated it, and how many runs the car has on it, and how many time it's been off the end of the track and in the sand. The biggest factor that stresses a car is how it's transported, you can put more runs on a chassis bouncing around in the trailer than you can ever hope to on a race track.

I am building a funny car with a CS2, others use it and a many use B & J's that are larger in diameter that the CS2. Just mu 2 cents worth.

    Kent,

Thanks for the reply. Our car will be here this weekend. We aren't in a hurry, but we will be test fitting our stuff and decide then. I have noticed the CS1 stuff is considerably less expensive, so this plays into the mix as well.

Also the CS2 is shorter, which means longer drive shaft. Any comments on this?

    cs2 vs cs1

we ran a cs2 in our funny car for a year, then bought a new cs1 and ran it for 3 years,I have a driveshaft-solid we used that one year that if you get me measurements I will sell, midplate was 65 inches out on this car.bought worked very well for me,but we bought the cs1 because most people run those in funny car,and parts were more common in the pits if you broke something.32 spline shaft.
