Hi i have a crower 10" 3 disc clutch, the discs and floaters i have are .256-.260 and leave a gap, so they must be too small thickness,
if i put a floater in at the flywheel end then a disc and so on i can then get the right reading, would this be acceptable? And does anyone know how thick they are from new,
also is there a setting for the springs or a procedure
the reason i ask as these discs have been faced, but i cannot understand why if they are so thin
    thanks from a clutch newby

Your discs should be running .380-.385 thick brand new. Floaters are a different story since there are all types out there. For the most part when we make them for the Crower our steel floater is .370-.375 thick and our bronze are .355. We do make some that are .265 thick.

So it's leaving a gap, even with your stands adjusted all the way to the bottom?

Sounds pretty scary to me. Save your money and buy some stuff that isn't worn out. Putting a floater against the flywheel sounds like a good way to get hurt.

I second that. Anything going steel on steel in that clutch will wind up costing you more in repairs than 3 new discs and two new floaters would run you.

Spring adjustment usually goes something like this to get your baseline:

Have enough spring pressure in the adjusters to set your ring height. Once set correctly with cover bolts torqued, back the static adjuster screws out until they almost fall out. Then hand turn them back in until you feel resistance from the spring. That will be your zero point.

As for discs, you can get them from us, Boninfante, Molinari, East-West or Crower and I'm sure there are quite a few others. Most likely in the ballpark of $120-130 each. I'm not sure where the other guys have their price breaks, or if they do at all so I can't really comment, but most will sell you at least a set at a time if not onesies or twosies.

Don't throw away the thinner stuff if you are looking to make it on a budget. Combine it with a new floater or new disc(s) to get the height you need. But at some point you need to draw the line and throw it away.

I throw out discs that are thinner than 280.

Mike is right, .275-.280 should be minumum, as they are probably "harder than woodpecker lips" by the time they get that thin!
Randy is also right, fresh floaters will stay flater/longer.
Crower and Molinari sell .400 thick floaters.
