crank trigger verse mag trigger

    are there any performance gains running off a crank trigger over the mag trigger

    Most mag drives are unstable and cause the timing to fluctuate. This could be as much as plus or minus 1 degree meaning you could have up to degrees fluctuation. Depending on the type and condition of the mag drive it could be more or could be less. In a car like a NHRA promod one degree of timing is around 100 HP so the answer to your question is yes there will be a power gain but how much depends on how much power you are making and the type and condition of your mag drive

    There may be a performance improvement on the crank trigger because if the cam shims are not clearanced right, the cam may walk back and forth changing the mag trigger timing. Crank trigger timing doesn't change.

    How much end play do you allow for a cam in a hemi? My timing was jumping way more than a single degree before I put the crank trigger on.

    You have to use the crank trigger, MSD used to have a video on their mag site showing the difference.

    camshaft endplay should be between .002 and .010 . and do not use any shims under .010 thick as it will just spit them out . before switching to a crank trigger our timing would fluctuate about 5 degrees .

    The first time I used a timing light to check the timing using a trigger I could not believe how stable the timing was . Never looking back .
