COPELAND ROCKETS TO THE TOP IN DAY ONE OF NHRA FINALE’

Pomona, Calif. – Ryan ‘Chase’ Copeland leads a field of 19 Top Alcohol Dragsters after recording an amazing 5.218-second elapsed time at over 276 miles per hour in the first day of qualifying at the 46th running of the Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals, the season finale’ of the 2010 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series contested at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, Calif.

The talented sophomore driver of International Drag Racing Hall of Fame owner Gene Snow’s potent A/Fuel Dragster from Gainesville, Texas, entered today’s action in Pomona after a semi-final appearance last weekend in Las Vegas, Nev., the final Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event of 2010. The final-four appearance gave Copeland enough points to tie fellow Division 4 TAD racer Michael Manners, and due to a tie-breaker was able to claim his first NHRA Division 4 TAD Championship.

“We had a very tough battle with “The Shredder” team and we’d like to congratulate Michael Manners and his team on a great season,” noted Copeland. “Our car has been running very good of late, and we did everything we could to claim that D-4 title. I am so honored to have such a great car to drive, to work with a great group of people and to race against some of the best people in drag racing.”

Copeland lined up for today’s first qualifying session knowing the lightning-quick Pomona quarter-mile coupled with very good atmospheric conditions fit very well with the high-mile per hour tune up of Gene Snow. Copeland recorded top speed of the NHRA US Nationals this season, and has recorded several low 5.20 elapsed times towards the end of the season, including his first NHRA National Event victory in October at the O’Reilly Super Start Batteries NHRA Fall Nationals held at Billy Meyer’s Texas Motorplex in Ennis, Texas.

“The weather and track were right in that perfect zone for our tune-up today,” Copeland said. “Our car does not have amazing initial numbers, but when we recorded a 0.927 60-foot time, and the car didn’t smoke the tires, I was hoping she’d keep all the pipes lit. The car thundered down this very good track and when I pulled the chutes, I knew it was a great run. However, this is only the first day of qualifying and there are several great cars out here. We’re going to do our best to repeat this performance tomorrow.”

Copeland and the Snow Racing / Lucas Oil sponsored team will receive two more qualifying attempts tomorrow. The first round of eliminations is scheduled to begin Saturday afternoon at 1pm.
