What type of Convertor would be best behind a 545cid 1471 HI Helix blown Ford Hemi approx 2K? HP utilizing a glide? Spragless?
Or would it be best just to skip the glide altogether? I have a "good" glide in the shop but I just want something that will last a decent amount of passes.

the chassis isnt done yet so now would be the time to switch to a bruno or lencodrive if need be.

    glide

hello jsracing; i have been building and racing glides for twenty+ years and imo, spragless is the way to go ,a lot of good converter suppliers out there you will just have to work with them on your combo to get what works.personally i have been through about a dozen converters.next issue would be shaft size.bigger is usually better.however not all manufactures parts interchange.launch rpm, boost, and gear ratio are critical to the life expectancy of a glide so you may want to start off low and work your way up.I am going out on a limb here saying 2500 horsepower and up you may want to look for a bruno or lenco. hope this helps, harry

    glide

Save your money and run the glide, but it needs to have good pieces. If you need to buy new parts, just go with the other option. Gearing is really a big factor. You probably will leave just around idle. 2000hp is a good number.to work with.Make sure you know what imput shaft you have or going to get. everyone has different ones, even though they seem to be the same. Found out the hard way. Have fun,[ KISS ] and keep it as simple as you can. Don

    ATI SuperGlide III

I help with a Dragster with Blown Alcohol Hemi that runs mid 3.80's, the ATI SuperGlide III has been perfect for 2 years (no failures ever) now and with a ATI SuperGlide 4 for this year, we hope to continue to the PowerGlide usage. We feel we make about 2000 HP with a mild tune-up. THANKS-Jim

Agree with Harry....depends on how hard you're going to push it...h.p./weight, etc.. Ran "bulletproof" Rossler Powerglides behind our 2000hp SBC...couldn't keep a set of planetary gears in it (Rossler makes awesome pieces, always happy with their company...just didn't work for us). Things have changed over the last few years but this is still true....if it was better...stronger....etc, we'd have one in our car. We service our Lencodrive at the end of every year...but never broken it. Over 500 runs at 2000 to now over 2500 h.p.....we think that's not too shabby. I know there's a 2 speed and a 3 speed Lencodrive for sale right now in the classifieds on this site. If you're buying new....get the big shaft; Snyder is the man to talk to about it.

Its a 2500 lb car and should have about approx 2200 HP, we dont need to push it to run the 7.0 index but we'd like to get a tenth under the index.

I'm sure a glide would be just fine then, just make sure you have a good converter. The only thing I'd worry about is the input shaft with that weight/h.p..

I worked for Mikes Transmission for years. His Powerglides and TH400s have all ran in the 5's for years now. Mike also runs a Blown alky dragster that ran a five and I also run a glide in my funny car. all I do is change oil and a yearly check up. Call Mike Stewart 661 723-0081. M-F 8 am to 5 pm PST. Heavy or light car he can get the job done

I'm curious to know what kind of combination you have that's making 3500 HP?

    Error on typing....that "3" was supposed to be a "2". Regardless it's a PSI on a 471" BAE...typical TAD engine.
