Congrats to Mike Austin on his 1st NHRA div win last weekend in Acton, Montana!! Mike is now driving for Jerry Maddern and the Peen Rite team. After I destroyed the Peen Rite dragster in a crash at the div 7 race at Sonoma July 1st, Jerry Maddern purchased Randy Johnson's (RIP) dragster, which used to be Don Hudson's digger. Mike did an excellent job of adapting to his new ride to make it to his first final round in NHRA competition. Our main goal was to work the bugs out of the car and get Mike used to driving it. Mike plugged into our team like a LEGO, everything worked out better than planned, and Mike ended up taking home the Wally!!!
Also, I would like to congratulate Bob Perkins and crew. Bob was shorthanded last weekend, but still reset the track record and made it to the final round. Great job Bob and Team!!!

Doctor says I shouldn't drive for 6 months or so while my concussion heals, but other than that I feel fine. For now I am a crew man on the Peen Rite team, running the fuel system, playing weather man, computer guy, etc as I have always done on the Peen Rite team.

But hey, this thread ain't about me... It's about Mike Austin and the GREAT JOB he did last weekend!!! [IMG] :D

I can't say thank you enough to the Maddern's for not only letting me fill in for Chris, but also for helping me all these years keep racing.I could not of raced a better guy than Bob Perkins in my first final round.I had the Maddern curse on my side.Bob you are right, these guy's never stop working. After working very late Friday night, they were right back at it Saturday night.I felt like I had been WHIPPED.I just hope that Mike Demke's burn heal's fast.I will not soon forget this whole weekend.Your awesome JERRY!!!
