Cody “The Flash” Perkins to Race with Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Colors in Las Vegas.

Cody Perkins, driver of the Blown Chances Top Alcohol Dragster, announced that his team will be racing for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) at the upcoming national event in Las Vegas, Nevada. The team received materials donated by Mactac and SignEFX to wrap the 265 MPH Top Alcohol Dragster with the JDRF logo and contact information. “This is a great cause that our team really supports,” commented Perkins. “Our team owner (Cody’s father Bob Perkins) was inspired 3 years ago when one of our local Jr. Drag Racers, Zachary Haarbrink, was diagnosed with the disease. Dad got the ball rolling by running his car at a local event helping to put the spotlight on JDRF – the event generated more than $10,000.” This was the beginning of what has become an annual fund raising event in Perkins’s hometown of Salt Lake City. “We feel Diabetes is a terrible disease, and each step toward a cure is worth working for!” The ultimate goal of this is to get national exposure for this worthwhile charity.

Anyone who has battled Type 1 Diabetes is invited to sign the car at any event the JDRF logo is on the Dragster.

Zachary and the Haarbrink Family will be available at Perkins’s pit area throughout the weekend to answer questions about JDRF and their experience with Type 1 Diabetes. Information about JDRF, how to get involved, and how to donate will be available as well.

Donations by spectators as well as other teams at this event are encouraged and appreciated! The Haarbrink Family will act as a mediator to direct donations to JDRF. Racers who donate will be recognized by having their name placed on the back door of the Blown Chances trailer in vinyl lettering courtesy of SignEFX to acknowledge their generosity.

Parents of children with Type 1 Diabetes founded the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. JDRF is a major charity that has been making advancements toward a cure for Type 1 Diabetes for the past 37 years. Last year Ford Motor Company donated over $2,000,000 to JDRF, which answers any questions regarding the legitimacy of the cause. Every hour of every day, a child is diagnosed with Type 1 (Juvenile Diabetes) through no fault of its own. Type 1 Diabetes is the most severe form of a disease, which annually accounts for more than $100 billion in health care costs in the U.S. alone.
