we had a guy look at our graph this weekend and he said if it was his car (with a clutch) he would put more weight on it to hold the motor down

question is what do you do if it has a converter and not a clutch?

this is a launch we are talking about

I'm a clutch guy, so take this for what its worth, but I would think you could lower your stall speed some and accomplish the same thing. If you weren't getting much convertor slip to begin with and the motor and wheel speed were out of hand, then you probably need to your low gear ratio to drop by a few points.

What was your wheel speed at 1.0s? What tire do you run? Six shooter?

we know we have a fuel issue and as soon as that is corrected and we still think the converter needs a little attention we will get in touch with him

our next race we can make it to is 4 weeks and in that time I hope to have a new fuel system setup to try

    thanks

    converter v. clutch

    I've worked with both...

A looser converter can act like a car that's clutch light to some degree. If you are wanting to grab the motor, a tighter converter a taller (numerically lower) transmission will do that. To some degree, you can take some more timing out on you box at that point and not let the motor flash the converter so hard, but I don't think thats the right way to go.

If you have a bolt together unit, talk to coan about a tighter stator and try that.

Generally with the converter if you want to improve 60' time, if you're retarding timing there, retard less. Unless you really have the car undergeared, with a converter, you should be able to 60' damn near anything you want.

I'd start by having a campfire with the 8973:D. Goodyear is a stickier tire than the Hoosier, providing they're not worn out..... You can adjust tire pressure to build more wheel speed and sort of "trick" the car on the top end by having a tire that's rotating easier so to speak.... Alas if you have a fuel issue....fix that and you might be just fine. I wouldn't change a thing until that was corrected. I'm assuming "problem" meaning it's way too fat or way too lean....either way when corrected you'll be making more power thus possibly fixing your worries out of the gate. If you have a Racepak, email me your run if you want, it'll give me something to do:cool:

DO NOT !!!! Get Will started on that s%@t again:D Some love it some hate it with a passion and say it blows up motors at the drop of a hat. I bought a six-shooter just to be sure. Search 8973 threads and do some reading.

    8973

The 8973 seems to be a little safer bet when behind a steel firewall of a pro mod, other than that, it's blown up shit waiting to happen. If avoided, I think analog is the way to go (six shooter).

I will have to disagree about the Goodyear. I could smoke the tires a lot easier with the Goodyears at the hit than the Hoosiers. They seem to be looser earlier and hook harder at the top of the gear. That's just my experience.

I should have said the new Goodyear alky tire that they released last year around Brainerd.....I think. They're supposed to be stickier and grow a bit taller than the Hoosier. I haven't personally ran them but just what those who did run them have said.
