I just bought a used Tubular Dynamics/David Scheelk clutch grinder. I don't know how many racers have owned it over the years so it is well used but I can't get it to grind flat. I tried shimming the bars the motor mounts on but when I got past .125 in shims I realized that isn't the way to go. My previous clutch grinder was easy to true up but was a dry grinder. This one has water coolant for the floaters, flywheels, and pressure plates. Which brings up another question- should clutch discs be ground dry or with coolant? I would welcome anybody's input on how to use this machine. Dave Germain

    Clutch Grinder.

    Dave,

Under neath the plate are a few Guide Blocks. I believe you shim underneath them.

I do not use this machine to cut my disks, I use a RCD diamond cutter machine. However most teams that I know use the Tublar Dynamics machine to grind the disks, grind them dry.

    Hope this helps

    shims

As Gary mentioned, there are shim plates underneath the turning plate. Those should get the grinder flat.

Keeping all the surfaces clean is important too. I would take the plate out and wipe down all the surfaces every couple of floaters.

PM me and I'll give you Dave's number for more questions.

Also, always cut the discs dry!

Sean, This is the one from Tx. I just finally got around to using it. Actually it didn't get here till late January. The guy bringing it from Phoenix took it to Palm Springs for the holidays which was ok because I didn't need it. And when it did get here all the parts didn't get here till last week. Just a communications thing.
I saw that the rubbing blocks under the table were somewhat worn. They appear to be teflon. I bought some teflon stock to replace them. That would be easier than shimming the struts the motor mounts on. I hadn't thought about shimming the rubbing blocks. Dave Germain
