I'll probably be testing friday and plan to make an eighth and then click it. It's a powerglide T/D with 1471. I think I shoud lift ,shut off fuel, put in neutral and shut off car.Leaving the fuel on and clicking it concerns me. any info would be greatly appreciated.

alky i presume? you can only check for heat in the plug and unless anyone thinks differently i dont think it matters at all
just lift and kill the mag, its not like your looking for plug colour

Any thoughts given to If you click it off at high speed then you shut the Powerglide pump off and have no converter cooling and no tranny lubrication.

Finally got to a big computer. Tired of typing on my phone. Ok, with an alcohol motor you do not soot the plugs on shutdown like a gasoline motor. The base circle of the plug that we look at for color is changed by heat so clicking the motor off is not necessary to read the plugs. You might have to clean the oil off the plugs with spray brake cleaner but that does not hurt the reading.

If you soot the plugs on a gas motor on shutdown or drive back tetrachlorethylene brakleen cleans it right off. Mike, you know more about reading plugs than I do but thats what I do.

    Shutting it off

If you are running a powerglide Like Mike said, I wouldn,t. There is no fluid going to the trans, and you will mess up the drum, etc. It is like you are running @ 8000 RPM,s and your heart stop pumping blood. Also , it will help slow you down. Don

I prefer to let it run until after I make the turn, it dont change the look of the plug other than maybe getting a little oil on it. Mine seem to do that but it comes right off.

Mike, if u see little rainbow color right below the strap maybe a quater inch wide or you see it across from the strap maybe a quarter inch wide is that little bit too much timing or just something in the fuel like the lube?Straps are gray. Thanks Bill
