Last weekend at Englishtown , our chutes got soaked in oil. It may have had something to do with putting 4 windows in the block and a 3 more holes in the pan, then hitting the sandtraps at about 150 and landing upside down in the in catch net. No matter, the chutes came back on the flatbed wrapped around the motor, soaked in oil. Anyone have any experience cleaning parachutes? Our thoughts are taking them to the laundromat or dry cleaners. We thought we'd put this out there for suggestions, since not much else is salvagable from the car. David Smith has pictures when he gets a chance to put them on his site. Take Care

    cleaning the chutes

zip tie the strouds so they dont get knotted up, and just wash them in your home washing machine, with a 50/50 mix of regular detergent and simple green...or some sort of degreaser. then just let them air dry. they will be real nice and clean. shelly howard taught me how to do that one...

you may have to clean the washer out to keep the old lady from killing you though... but it should be easy to wipe out if you do have any residue left.

Been there, Done that (left the residue in the washer).

I used Simple Green and paper towels to clean the washer out, then ran a load of old black TORCO t-shirts through it. I didn't want the first load of clothes to be my wife putting a load of whites in it before it ran through another cycle.

Yeah. The car made a right towards the wall on 1-2 shift, John lifted immediately, about 800-1000 foot mark, and the throttle hung open. I think John was already focused on keeping the car off the wall, shutting down was a second, although equally important priority. A lot was happening on a 225mph run at once. Thanks to the Safety Safari and the rules implimented by NHRA, John had ZERO injuries, not even bruises from the belts. The brain damage was a pre-existing condition, why else would you drive/own a funny car.

    Cleaning Parachutes

Try putting them in the washing machine with a bottle of Fantastic. Works great on a long cycle in getting grease and oil out of T shirts as well.
