Foster revved up for Indy Division 3 opener

CLERMONT, Ind. – Following a career outing at last month’s national event in Houston, NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Chris Foster and the Foster Racing/DragRaceHose.com backed team are looking forward to kicking off the Division 3 season during this weekend’s Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at the famed O’Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis. Foster qualified No. 2 and reached the semifinals in Houston and hopes to achieve similar results this weekend.

Foster, from Davenport, Iowa, reset his career-best elapsed time and speed in Houston, running bests of 5.67 seconds (round one) and a speed of 254 mph (semifinals). Foster cites wholesale changes made over the offseason as the reason for his newfound performance.

“We changed everything over the winter,” said Foster. “We made a deal with Will Hanna to hire him as Crew Chief at the end of last year. We basically scratched what we had and started from ground zero. For a while there, there were times I didn’t want to answer the phone because I knew he was probably telling me something else I needed to change or buy. The first thing we did was send the fuel system to Randy Anderson, and we just went from there. It was a lot of work to get everything changed in time for the season, but the way the car ran in Houston, it was all definitely worth it.

“Everything is coming together for us,” Foster continued. “Will is getting a handle on what the car wants and it really makes my job as a driver easier not worrying about what the car is going to do. We’ve also brought DragRaceHose.com and Goodridge Hose & Fittings on board as major associate sponsors. Hopefully we can make another good showing for them this weekend.”

Team Crew Chief Hanna is looking for progress rather than trying to “rotate the earth.”

“Everything kind of fell in place for us in Houston,” cited Hanna. “We hit the right tune-up right off the bat. That was our first race-slash-test session all in one. We made some respectable laps, went some rounds and learned quite a bit. Now that we have a good baseline to fall back on, hopefully that will enable us to make some more progress on the tune-up. Regardless the outcome, we just want to make progress.”

Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars, followed by two qualifying sessions Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday.

Will Hanna’s www.DragRaceHose.com is an official distributor of ultra high-quality Goodridge Hoses and Fittings, the name top racers in all motorsports disciplines trust. Goodridge is also a paying contingency sponsor in NHRA and IHRA, so log on to add your name to the list of racers winning with Goodridge.
