Demke looks to seal the deal in Vegas


Las Vegas- Top Alcohol Dragster driver Chris Demke and the Jerry Maddern/ Peen-Rite racing team would love nothing more than to seal the deal at this weekend’s upcoming division seven Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event on ‘The Strip’ hosted at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Demke has started the 2009 NHRA Lucas Oil Sportsman Series on fire, reaching four final rounds in four race day starts. Their season began with a final round appearance at the Kragen O’Reilly Winternationals in Pomona, CA. Followed up by a final round showing at the division seven LODRS event in Phoenix, AZ, and a hair-raising final versus Duane Shields at the O’Reilly Spring Nationals in Houston, TX where Demke crossed the centerline and nearly lost control of his 260 mph dragster.

After yet another final round appearance this past weekend at the Summitracing.com nationals held at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Demke is optimistic that the team will find a way to add a 17th LODRS ‘Wally’ to their impressive resume.

“Based on our performance at the National event last week, we have a strong tune-up,” said Demke. “We will just have to stick with what we know works, and it works very well at ‘The Strip’.”

This week, the Top Alcohol Dragsters will be the quickest cars at the LODRS event at ‘The Strip’ and Demke knows the competition will be just as difficult as it was last weekend.

“Most of the same teams that were at the National event will be at the Division race, only now we are going to try and squeeze into an eight car field instead of a 16 car field,” said the three time Division seven Top Alcohol Dragster champion from Sunland, CA. Demke continued, “I expect it to be a real knock-down-drag-out melee kind of event- if you catch my drift.”

The Peen-Rite Top Alcohol Dragster team heads into this weekend’s event currently leading the Pacific Division point’s championship and third in the NHRA National point standings.

This weekend’s race at ‘The Strip’ will be contested as a two-day show with three rounds of qualifying on Friday for the Top Alcohol Dragsters. Qualifying runs are scheduled on Friday at 3 p.m., 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Final eliminations will take place on Saturday evening beginning at 3 p.m.

On Friday and Saturday, LVMS will offer a special $15-per-carload general admission (no pit area access).

The Strip at LVMS also will also host a second Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event on Nov. 5-8.
