Hi, I have a TAD Roller (New) and want to ease into the class (I'm not a Billionare.) I plan on doing Pro Top Outlaw/ advance ET then ease into TAD. My questions are 1. Is the DynoSim program semi accurate (with the corrct info inputed? 2. Is the DragSim program accurate? Can a short block be built with TAD in mind and then use a 8:71 (IHRA TD Rules) and later upgrade to a TAD 14:71/Screw with minor changes? Or are we talking apples and oranges here with no lower end commonalities? Thanks

Build the parts for the 14.71 in the first place. It won't hurt it to run the 8.71. Put in some compression, with a fairly thin head gasket, then you could add some gasket if you try a 14.71.

there aren't a ton of differences in the basic short block between a roots blower and a screw blower. There are differences in the fuel system between the two (fairly big differences). But the biggest differences are in trans ratios and in maintenance frequency. The screw blower requires much more maintenance. A roots blower can be fun and a great way to learn and get your feet wet. And they aren't too hard on parts.

Dave, I'm curious why the screw requires more maintenance? Is it because of overdrive limits and having to wring RPM out of the motor? What about with an outlaw situation where there are no O/D limits and thus no need to wring the motor?

The screw blower makes more boost than the roots blower so that increases the stress on the motor and the way to get around the overdrive limits is to just spin the motor higher. If you didn't have the overdrive limits you wouldn't have to do that. Without a doubt one of the more serious things you can do to a motor is rev it to the moon. Afuel motors make a ton of power but don't hurt rods and crankshafts nearly as often as blown alcohol does because they keep the rpm levels in a sane range.
