Hi. I'm new here and the topic migth have been up earlier. But I want to know if anyone out there is running a Bruno/lenco combination in a Doorslammer with blown engine and can give me some real life experience?
My car weigths about 2500lbs, have a BAE5 Hemi dynoed at 2200hp and a 3speed CS-2 lenco. I have just had my Bruno Converterdrive rebuilt by bruno after a nasty converter brekage last season. Bruno recomended me to have a bellhousing made by Browell and let Coan make the converter for next season. Sounds fine with me, but will end up a lot more expensive than buying a clutch.
My team and I have no clutch experience our main tougth was to go fast with minimum work between the rounds. We run TopDoorslammer In Sweden and we have no restrictions about the clutch. We actually have no rules at all, exept safety. :D
Should I sell the bruno and go for the clutch?
Is it really easier with a converter when you plan to run mid 6's at 220+mph or will a clutch be less work in the end?

    Thanks

We, along with 3 others out here, run this set up, and have gone 6.25 @ 233 MPH with a Bruno unit and a Spec-Rite torque converter. Very little maintanence
compared to a clutch, with the unit itself, and just keep an eye on the lenco tower pressures. If you need a converter, Spec Rite is great. Thats all we have ever run. Give them a call (530)243-8300. Ask for Rod or Mike.

    Bruno/lenco

I too have a bruno lenco with a Tran Specialties spragless converter and run 6.50s/225 at 29% over on the blower and no high speed!37' Chevy at 2675 lbs.I'm kinda a lazy a$$,so no clutch maint. is great for me!:p.Can't the rpm quite as high as I would like against the trans brake, but it's good enough.I also use air to shift.

I have one to in a outlaw car. we only run 1/8th mile but we run 4.40s @ 165 to 170 in a 3220# doorcar. I leave at idle,no transbreak launches and only use a 2 speed lenco. Use a coan 2 piece mega converter and love it. 0 maintenance.

    Thanks for the info

Sounds like you all are pretty satisfied with the converters. That gives a lazy Swedish racer hope :) Does any of you guys have a sugestion on what adapter to use between the HEMI and the converter? I saw that Coan is offering a kit called "Top Fuel" guess it migth be a good kit.
Also what do you do when you're at a bad track, does the adjustable pressure on the Bruno work for adjusting the slippage? Or is the only way to tune the engine for less power? Do you need to have a bunch of different converters or stators?
    Thanks again for your answers.

Do you guys run 150psi to the Lenco shift pods and 200psi to the Bruno trans brake? Using two bottles or one bottle two regulators?

    to do list

    your 'to do' list;
    1)call LONNIE HOUDE 1(508)776 4898...he is a blower+converter expert
2)call SPEC-RITE and do what Rod tells you
3)buy a leaf blower and some folding chairs
4)find a shady spot next to trailer for between rounds
5)think of something pleasant to say when you are sitting there watching your clutch buddies sweat their butts off
6)use some exotic oil in your converter drive so people think your'e just that smart
    7)have fun racing

Good to hear Chuck. Rod and the SpecRite gang have their stuff together, and Lonnies results speak for themselves. Good to hear you got the 'stude running good. Surrounding yourself with good people and even better knowledge goes a long way.

I've been talking with Mike@Specrite and I'm going to run one of their converters. He has already gave me some great tips and is great to talk to on the phone. Chuck I already have the leaf blower and some lawn chairs:D so I can watch the "clutch" boys with their dirty hands

AND clean fingers + no crusty buggers after run

no offense to our clutch endowed friends...lots of smart people using em...just I'm not that bright with them...

I'm gonna use all my newfound spare time and $ and make my car pretty, I'm thinking some chrome mudflaps with naked woman profile and some neon lights under the rockers...that ought to look real sharp on the old turd:cool:
