Lewis hopes to get the monkey off his back in Topeka

TOPEKA, Kan. – Going into this weekend’s O’Reilly Summer Nationals at Heartland Park in Topeka, Kan., NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster driver Brandon Lewis and his family’s TigerFlow Systems sponsored team will be looking to get rid of the proverbial monkey on their back this weekend. The team has all the pieces in place to win with a proven driver, a proven tuner, proven chassis design and combination. The team hopes this will be the weekend they return to their normal form.

Lewis, 24, of Broken Arrow, Okla., reached his first national event final at this event in 2007 and hopes this year’s event will be kind to the team again.

“Topeka is one of the close races for us,” said Lewis. “We qualified No. 1 in Great Bend [Kan.], but eliminations were rained out. We’ve made some changes that the car is responding to, so it looks like we’re on the right track. I know it’s only a matter of time before we turn the corner and get the monkey off our backs.

“We went to our first final here two years ago, maybe we can get our first win of the year here this year,” Lewis added. “At any rate, we hope to make a good showing for TigerFlow Systems, Morrison Construction, Lucas Oil, UniFirst, Ringers Gloves and A-1 Auto Body.”

Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars with two sessions, followed by one final session Saturday morning. Eliminations begin with round one Saturday afternoon and final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday.
