Lewis looking to stay hot in Topeka

TOPEKA, Kan. – Hot off his first national event win in Brainerd, Minn., two weeks ago, NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster driver Brandon Lewis and his family’s TigerFlow Systems/Morrison Construction backed team are looking to stay hot at this weekend’s Division 5 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Heartland Park in Topeka, Kan. Lewis is quick to attribute his newfound success to the recent hiring of legendary tuner Steve Boggs.

Lewis, 22, of Broken Arrow, Okla., enters the event ranked 14th nationally and hopes a strong showing will vault him back into the top ten in national standings. He also hopes to keep the momentum going from his first national event victory.

“We definitely hope to keep the momentum going this weekend,” said Lewis. “We still have a shot at finishing in the top ten if we can have some success on the divisional level. We’ve only been to three divisional events so far this year, so we have a lot of room left for improvement there.

“It definitely has given this team a new level of confidence with Boggs in our corner,” Lewis continued. “He’s just a wealth of information when it comes to these cars. Ever since he joined the team, he pretty much laid all the information we needed to know on the table. He’s answered every question we’ve had and that’s what this team needed. He’s showed us things we would have never thought of. We struggled in the heat earlier in the year, but we’re all excited to see what this new Boggs combo will do this weekend in the heat.”

Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars with one final session Saturday morning. Final eliminations will conclude the event Saturday evening.
