    Lewis scores home-state runner-up

NOBLE, Okla. – NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster driver Brandon Lewis and his family’s TigerFlow Systems/Morrison Construction backed team reached their first final in divisional competition with a runner-up finish during this past weekend’s Division 4 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series closer at Thunder Valley Raceway Park just outside of Oklahoma City, Okla. The strong showing moved him to third in Division 4 standings.

Lewis, 23, of Broken Arrow, Okla., qualified the Steve Boggs tuned A/Fuel Dragster fifth with a 4.506 second elapsed time on the newly-mandated 1000’ racing distance, which equated to a low 5.3 second quarter-mile time. In round one, he defeated Diana Harker with an off-pace 4.659, then carded an impressive 4.475 to defeat Division 2 points leader Artie Allen in the semifinals.

Lewis then squared off with recent Shreveport Division 4 winner Michael Manners. Lewis took the jump off the line with a .036 to .068 holeshot, but encountered heavy tireshake and was forced to lift, while Manners collected his second-straight victory with a 4.455.

“It was good to finally reach the final of a divisional event,” said Lewis. “We’ve been running the alcohol classes since 2005 and this was our first final on the divisional level. We’ve been to a couple of national event finals and even got a win at one this year, but we’ve never had any success at divisionals.

“We shook the tires pretty hard in the first round,” Lewis continued. “Then we made a pretty good run in the semi’s. That 4.47 would have been a high 5.20 if we were running quarter-mile. It didn’t set the front wheels down until about 400-500 ft. In the finals, it shook in the same spot it did in the first round; the track just wasn’t as good as we thought it was going to be. It shook and made a hard move, so I had to lift. It was a good race for us and we squared off with someone that we’re going to have to deal with next year in Michael Manners. That team is going to be tough.”

The next event for the TigerFlow Systems/Morrison Construction team will be the season-ending Auto Club of Southern California Finals in Pomona, Calif., Nov. 13-16.
